Together We Care for our Environment

Sunday, November 5th was the Cowichan Climate Cafe – a gathering of changemakers!

Together We Raised $196.50 for the CMS Mill Bay Food Bank!

Giving Back was so much FUN! Shawnigan-style Fall Festival & Market from 11:30-3pm on Sunday, October 22nd with the SLCA

8-9am – Breakfast & Conversation at the Shawnigan Basin Society Community Table
. . . Then We Clean Up and Gear Up!
10am-12noon – Litterpicking Walk through Shawnigan Village, Wharf Park and Mason’s Beach

“Aerial the Trash Mermaid” by Victoria artist Tanya Bub, is on loan to us and is often hanging out near the Shawnigan Basin Society! She was created from a year’s worth of plastic bags used by one family, to draw awareness to our impact and our responsibility to care for the environment.

“Cobble Hill Village Wastewater Treatment Facility Tour”

Address: 1413 Hutchinson Road in Cobble Hill
(Parking is limited at the facility so please arrive at 9:45am, park on Watson Avenue and walk to the site)

The Cobble Hill Village wastewater treatment facility produces high quality wastewater treatment that is used for irrigation in community parks and for toilet flushing in public washrooms.The effluent reclamation program was recently expanded to two community parks. We will tour the facility, discuss the background of the effluent reclamation program and Lisa will explain the treatment process.

The garden “Before” our arrival on Saturday! The beds themselves are irrigated and have been producing lots of greens like kale and swiss chard for donating each Tuesday to the Mill Bay Food Bank. There are also some lovely flowers!

Let’s take care of the rest of the weeding in a fun work party – dress for the warm weather expected, BYOB and stay hydrated – “Together We Transform”

Saturday morning July 31st is our FKSS Garden weeding+pizza blitz from 9am-12noon. Please email us at ShawniganRotaryEcoClub@gmail.com by Friday if you’ll be there so we can plan for the 11:30am veggie pizza delivery! Any time you can spare for this service project is much appreciated and will make a positive difference!
